In Every Lancaster Home Display

We handle the measuring, hanging, fixing and storing.

01

A design for your home

We plan around your roofline, trees and yard, whether you live near the square or on acreage off Houston School Road.

04

December repairs

If a run fails, call the office and we schedule a crew to fix it.

02

Leased LED

You use our commercial-grade lights for the season, with no strings to buy or replace.

05

Removal in January

After the holidays we take down everything, from clips on the gutters to stakes in the yard.

03

Measured runs

Each line is cut to the eave or peak it hangs on, so older homes with porches and dormers finish neatly and newer gables come to a clean point.

06

Storage

Your display waits in our shop, labeled to your address, until next season.

Old Square, New Northwest Side

Lancaster was laid out in 1852 around a town square modeled on its founder's Kentucky hometown. Three Lancaster houses, including the Randlett House and the Captain R. A. Rawlins House, are on the National Register of Historic Places. Around the city center, many homes were built from the 1940s through the 1990s.

The northwest side is much newer. In Lancaster Northwest, more than 90 percent of homes were built after 1999, mostly detached single-family houses with three or more bedrooms. An F4 tornado in 1994 damaged or destroyed more than 250 homes and every building on the square, and much of the square was rebuilt in the years that followed. An older home with a porch looks right with lit eaves, porch posts and garland, while a newer two-story wants its peaks and garage edge outlined.

  • Historic homes: porches, posts and garland

  • Mid-century ranches: one long eave line

  • Newer two-stories: peaks and garage edge

  • Acreage: drives, gates and big trees

  • Trees given trunk and branch wraps

How a Lancaster Install Works

01

Call or request a quote

Tell us your Lancaster address and what you want lit. Late-summer calls leave the most dates open.

02

Design visit

We measure the house, size up trees, find outlets and ask about HOA or historic-area concerns.

03

Install

With the design approved, the crew installs and tests everything. Gates open means you can be away.

04

Through the holidays

Timers turn the lights on each evening, and a call to 972-620-9560 covers any repair.

05

Takedown and storage

In early January we take it all down and store it for next year.

Lancaster Neighborhoods We Light

Lancaster's homes span more than 150 years of building. We also hang lights next door through our DeSoto holiday lighting for homeowners and our Cedar Hill house lighting service.

Historic Town Square area

Older homes near the 1852 square, where streets enter from the center of each side, including houses listed on the National Register. Porches, simple eaves and garland on posts suit their scale and age better than heavy outlines.

City Center

Established homes built from the 1940s through the 1990s near the middle of town, many under mature shade. One warm eave line, netted shrubs and a lit trunk fit these single-story houses well.

Houston School and Bluegrove acreage

Properties along Houston School Road and Bluegrove Road, some on more than an acre with stables and pools. Lighting the drive and front trees helps the home read from the road.

Lancaster Northwest

A newer part of the city where more than nine in ten homes were built after 1999, mostly detached houses with three or more bedrooms. Front peaks, garage edges and one wrapped tree complete these displays, and young yards gain depth from lit shrubs.

Bear Creek Ranch

A rural-feeling area of single-family homes from the 1970s through the 2000s on larger lots. The drive, the front trees and the roofline work together here, and long runs are planned at the design visit.

Living in the City of Trees

Lancaster, nicknamed the City of Trees, was named a Tree City USA in 2007. Mature trees shade the older streets, and the city has more than 600 acres of parks, including 170-acre Community Park and the 189-acre Bear Creek Nature Park. Big trees can be the strongest part of a display, so we measure trunks and main branches at the design visit and plan runs so they stay safe and secure.

The city also has design guidelines for historic residential properties. Temporary holiday lighting held by clips is removed after the season, but if your home is in the historic area and you have questions, it is worth asking the city. For entrances and common areas in newer neighborhoods, our Lancaster HOA lighting information explains how we work with associations.

  • Large trees wrapped trunk and branch

  • Historic homes lit without permanent fasteners

  • Porch posts and doors given garland

  • Newer neighborhoods checked for HOA rules

  • Runs planned around mature canopy

Lancaster Cost Factors

We quote from measurements taken at your home. These are the details that count.

Roofline footage

Total lit eave and peak length is the biggest factor. Lighting only the street-facing side of a long ranch keeps the footage modest.

Lot size

Acreage homes with long drives and far-off trees need longer runs and more planning for power.

Height

Two-story homes on the northwest side need more setup and safety equipment than single-story homes near the city center.

Extras

Wreaths, porch garland, column wraps and pathway lights are added one at a time, so you control how full the front becomes.

Tree size

Mature trees in the City of Trees take more lighting to wrap than young ones, and they often make the display.

Lancaster Christmas Lighting FAQs

Have a question we didn’t cover? Call 972-620-9560 or request a free quote online.

Do you install Christmas lights on homes in Lancaster?

–

Yes. We light homes in Lancaster's 75134 and 75146 ZIP codes. For businesses on the square and HOA entrances, see our Lancaster commercial Christmas lighting.

Do I buy the lights? Is permanent lighting available?

–

You lease them. We supply, maintain, remove and store the commercial-grade LED. If you want lighting that stays up year-round, see our permanent lighting near Lancaster.

When should I book?

–

Late summer or early fall gives you the widest choice. Installs generally begin in early November and fill from the first requests forward. Homes with several mature trees to wrap need extra time at the design visit, which is one more reason to call early.

When are the lights taken down?

–

Removal happens after the holidays, in early January for most homes. The crew takes down every strand, clip and stake and stores the lighting at our shop under your address.

Does my HOA need to approve the display?

–

Associations vary from street to street in Lancaster, and many older blocks near the square have none. If yours has guidelines, send them along and we design and schedule the display to match, including install and removal dates.

Could clips harm an older roof, trim or gutters?

–

No. Shingles on older Lancaster homes are left intact because nothing is nailed or stapled into them. Clips attach to gutters or slide under shingle edges, and on wood trim and porch posts we use fasteners that come off cleanly.

How do the lights get power and turn on?

–

From your exterior outlets, on timers that switch the display on each evening. Older homes sometimes have few outdoor outlets, so we locate each one at the design visit and plan runs around them.

My home is near the historic square. Is holiday lighting a problem?

–

Our lights are temporary, held by clips and removed in January, so nothing is attached permanently. If you have questions about the city's historic residential guidelines, check with the city before install. For year-round accent lighting on an older home, see Lancaster landscape lighting.
