What We Light Across Dallas
Dallas properties range from historic cottages to corporate campuses, and the menu covers both.
01
Uplighting Trees
Fixtures at the base of live oaks, cedar elms and red oaks throw light up through the canopy. Bark texture and branch shape become the focal point after dark, with no glare toward the street.
04
Security and Safety Light
Even, layered light along side yards, gates, garage approaches and dark corners removes hiding spots and trip hazards. It is calmer than a floodlight and keeps the property easy to watch.
02
Historic and Tudor Homes
Older Dallas neighborhoods are full of Tudors, Craftsman bungalows and traditional brick. Grazing light on textured masonry and soft accents at arched doors bring out details that disappear at night.
05
Modern Architecture
Newer Dallas builds often feature clean planes, large glass and minimal planting. Narrow beams, wall grazing and a few sculptural tree accents suit a modern facade better than scattered path lights.
03
Pool Decks and Kitchens
Task light over the grill, a gentle glow around the pool coping and accents on nearby plantings make the backyard usable at night without turning it into a parking lot.
06
Business and HOA Properties
Monument signs, entry walls, common-area trees and walkways for offices, shopping centers and neighborhood associations, planned so the property looks cared for every night of the year.

Lighting Under a Dallas Canopy
Much of Dallas sits under mature live oaks, pecans and cedar elms. Those canopies are the city's finest lighting feature and its biggest planning challenge.
Large trees need several uplights to read well, and many benefit from downlights mounted high in the branches. We route low-voltage cable around surface roots, choose beam spreads to fit each tree and come back to re-aim as canopies fill in. Lit well, a single old oak can carry an entire front yard.

How a Dallas Lighting Project Runs
01
Talk Through Goals
Curb appeal, safer walks, ausable patio, a lit sign, or all of it. What you want from the lighting shapes every choice that follows.
02
Study the Site
We note sight lines from the street and the patio, soil and bed conditions, and the existing outlets we can draw power from.
03
Design the Layout
You get a fixture plan showing what gets lit, which beam each feature needs and where the transformer and timer will sit.
04
Installation Day
Cable goes in shallow and neat, fixtures are staked or mounted, and the transformer is placed where it is out of sight.
05
Tune and Hand Over
We aim and dim each fixture once it is dark, set the dusk schedule and come back for service when you need it.
Dallas Neighborhoods and Districts
From North Dallas estates to East Dallas bungalows, each part of the city calls for a different plan. A few we design for often:
Preston Hollow
Large lots, long drives and estate homes make Preston Hollow ideal for layered landscape lighting. We light the approach, specimen oaks, the facade and backyard living spaces as one connected scene, with circuits sized for long runs. Pool terraces and guest houses can run as separate zones on their own schedules.
Lake Highlands
Ranch homes and two-stories under mature canopy fill Lake Highlands. A front tree, the entry and the walk are a strong first phase, and many owners add backyard patios and pools later. Side-yard and gate lighting is a popular add-on for security on these wide lots.
Uptown and Turtle Creek
Offices, hotels and residential towers around Uptown and Turtle Creek need refined lighting on entries, plantings and signage. Small, discreet fixtures fit the area's polished look and keep sidewalks inviting at night. Schedules can follow building hours, with a lower security level running overnight.
Lakewood and White Rock Lake
Lakewood's Tudors and traditional homes sit under big trees near White Rock Lake. Warm grazing on brick and stone, uplit trunks and soft path light bring out the neighborhood's character without overpowering it. Fixtures stay small and hidden in beds so the homes, not the hardware, get noticed.
Kessler Park
Kessler Park's hilly streets and historic homes in North Oak Cliff need lighting that respects slopes and old trees. Step lights on grade changes and careful aiming keep glare off homes below. Mature canopies here are ideal for moonlighting that spills soft light over sloped lawns.
Commercial Landscape Lighting in Dallas
Our parent company, Carruthers Landscape Management, has cared for commercial grounds in Dallas since 1978. That background shapes how we place fixtures: out of the way of mowers and edgers, protected from foot traffic and easy to service.
We light office campuses, retail centers, restaurants, churches and HOA entrances across Dallas, from monument signs to parking-lot islands. Schedules follow business hours, and certificates of insurance are available before any work begins.

What Drives a Lighting Proposal
We do not quote from a chart; these are the things we measure on site.
How much you light
Lighting only the street-facing view keeps a project tight. Adding the backyard, patio, side gates and every specimen tree grows the fixture list, the wire and the crew time together.
Zones and app control
Splitting front, back and patio into separate zones lets you run each on its own schedule. Smart controllers and app access add to the hardware list and the setup work.
Brass, copper or aluminum
Heavier metal fixtures stand up to mowers, heat and weather better and age into a natural patina. Painted aluminum is lighter and less costly. Material choice shows up directly in the proposal.
Tree height and mounting
Uplighting from the ground is straightforward. Mounting downlights high in a tall oak for a moonlight effect takes climbing, careful strapping and more time on site.
Wire runs and distance
Long runs to a back fence line, a far tree or a detached structure add cable and labor. Grouping fixtures into smart circuits keeps wire lengths and voltage drop under control.

Dallas Landscape Lighting FAQ
Have a question we didn’t cover? Call 972-620-9560 or request a free quote online.
Where is your Dallas office?
–
Our office is at 11593 Goodnight Ln, Dallas, TX 75229, in Northwest Dallas. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm, and the phone number is 972-620-9560. From there our crews reach neighborhoods and commercial properties across the city.
Do you light homes in Dallas, or only businesses?
–
Both. Landscape lighting is available for Dallas homes of every size as well as offices, retail, restaurants, churches and HOA entrances. Every project gets its own design, from a single front tree and walk to a full estate system with several zones.
Can you light a modern home without it looking busy?
–
Yes. Modern facades usually look better with fewer, more precise fixtures: narrow beams grazing a wall, a lit sculptural tree and a defined entry. We avoid scattered path lights and keep fixtures hidden, so the architecture stays the focus. Clean architecture needs very little help.
What does landscape lighting cost in Dallas?
–
It depends on the property, so we do not quote a flat number. Fixture count, fixture material, transformer size, wire distance, hardscape crossings and the control system set the cost. After a site visit you get a written proposal with each of those factors spelled out, so you can trim or add scope with clear numbers in front of you.
What is the difference between low-voltage and line-voltage lighting?
–
Line voltage runs at full household current and needs conduit, deep trenching and an electrician for every change. Low voltage, usually around 12 volts, runs through a transformer, so cable can sit shallow and fixtures are easy to move as the landscape grows. For homes and most commercial grounds, low voltage is the practical choice.
What are the fixtures made of?
–
We specify fixtures by location. Brass and copper suit exposed beds and turf edges where durability matters most. Lighter aluminum bodies can work under eaves or in protected areas. Either way, you get commercial-grade LED fixtures chosen for the spot, not whatever happens to be on a store shelf.
What is moonlighting?
–
Moonlighting is a technique where fixtures are mounted high in a tree and aimed down. Light filters through the leaves and lands on the lawn, walk or patio with a dappled pattern, much like a full moon. It works on large, mature trees and adds wide, gentle light.
Do I need HOA approval for landscape lighting?
–
Many Dallas neighborhoods have an HOA, and some ask owners to submit exterior changes. Low-voltage landscape lighting is usually simple to approve, especially warm white light aimed away from the street and neighbors. We can give you a layout and fixture details to include with your request.
Is your landscape lighting a separate company?
–
No. Our landscape lighting is offered under NTD, Nite Time Decor, as part of Christmas Decor by Carruthers Decorative Lighting. Same office at 11593 Goodnight Ln in Dallas, same phone number and the same insured crews, so one call covers year-round landscape lighting and seasonal work.
