Where We Hang Bistro Lights in Dallas

From backyard patios to busy restaurant terraces, these are the spaces we light most.

01

Backyard Patios

Straight runs or a zig-zag canopy over the seating area, hung high enough to clear heads and umbrellas. Strands ride on support wire so the lines stay crisp instead of drooping between anchor points.

04

Restaurant Patios

Dining patios need even light over every table, hardware that survives nightly service and strands that do not swing in the wind. We plan runs around umbrellas, heaters and server paths.

02

Gazebos and Pavilions

Strands can outline the roof edge, drape inside the open structure or link the gazebo to the house with a lit span. We fasten to framing without marring finished wood.

05

Balconies and Side Yards

Even a narrow balcony or side yard can carry a short run or two. We size the strand, bulb spacing and anchors to the space so it looks intentional rather than crowded.

03

Bulb and Strand Choices

S14 and ST38 Edison shapes, round G40 globes and other styles, all in warm white tones. We help match bulb shape and spacing to the space and the mood you want.

06

Covered Patios

Under a solid patio cover, strands can follow the beams or trace the perimeter for a softer, layered look. Cords are routed neatly to the outlet so nothing hangs loose.

Permanent or Seasonal Strands?

Most bistro lighting in Dallas stays up year-round. A permanent install uses fixed anchors, support wire and outdoor-rated components, so there is nothing to take down in fall or rehang in spring.

Seasonal setups make sense for short-term events, but repeated hanging wears out strands and anchors. If you want lights only part of the year, we can plan anchors that stay in place so the strands themselves go up and come down quickly.

  • Permanent: fixed anchors, no rehanging

  • Permanent: outdoor-rated for daily use

  • Seasonal: suited to short-term needs

  • Hybrid: fixed anchors with removable strands

Planning and Hanging Your Lights

01

Describe the Space

Patio, rooftop, courtyard or lawn: we start by learning the size, the surfaces and what is already there, from outlets to trees and fences.

02

Survey Every Surface

Brick, stucco, stone, wood beams and metal pergolas each take different fasteners. We note surfaces so mounts hold without damage.

03

Spec the Hardware

We size support wire, poles, mounts and cable for the span lengths and wind exposure, so the system is built for this exact site.

04

Install and Test

We hang every run, connect power, test each bulb and confirm the dimmer or timer works before the crew packs up.

05

Service Calls

If a bulb fails or a span loosens after a storm, call us. We service the systems we install so your Dallas space stays guest-ready.

Dallas Districts Built for Patios

Dallas has some of the busiest patio districts in Texas, and many homes in older neighborhoods have courtyards and pergolas made for evening use. Our crews are based in Northwest Dallas, so the whole city is close.

Deep Ellum

Bars, music venues and restaurants in Deep Ellum lean on patios and rooftop decks. These spaces need string lighting that survives late, crowded nights, with tensioned wire, high runs and connections protected from bumps and weather. Shatter-resistant bulbs and protected connections keep the patio working through long weekends.

Lower Greenville and Knox-Henderson

Patio dining defines Lower Greenville and Knox-Henderson. Restaurants here benefit from canopies over seating that read as one even ceiling of light, planned around umbrellas, heaters and the paths servers walk all night. Timers and a host-stand switch keep the lights consistent from lunch through late service.

Preston Hollow and Lakewood

Larger homes in Preston Hollow, Lakewood and similar neighborhoods often have pool decks, pergolas and courtyards. Bistro lighting is available for Dallas homes, with layouts that tie several outdoor areas into one plan. Pool decks get strands high and back from the water, on GFCI-protected power.

Bishop Arts District

Bishop Arts' small restaurants and shops often have compact patios and courtyards close to the street. Wall anchors on older brick and short, tight spans keep the look clean in tight spaces and leave sidewalks clear. Edison-style ST38 bulbs suit the district's older buildings and relaxed patio style.

Uptown and the Design District

Rooftops, hotel terraces and courtyards in Uptown and the Design District use string lighting to set a mood for events and dining. We plan pole placement and wind loading carefully for exposed rooftop runs. Weighted or fixed pole bases protect the roof membrane while holding tension in the wind.

Rooftop Bars and Terraces

Rooftops are the most dramatic place for string lights and the most demanding. Wind is stronger, anchor points are scarce and roofing cannot be punctured carelessly. We use weighted or fixed pole bases, tie into railings only where they can carry the load, and tension wire on every span.

For Dallas rooftop bars and hotel terraces, we coordinate access, roof protection and scheduling with building management, and provide certificates of insurance before work starts.

  • Weighted or fixed pole bases

  • Tension on every span for wind

  • Roofing protected during install

  • Building access coordinated in advance

  • COIs provided before work starts

Factors That Change the Scope

Use these to decide where to spend and where to keep it simple.

Poles and Footings

Steel posts in concrete, deck-mounted poles and weighted planters each carry different labor and material. Pole height and finish choices change the scope as well.

Tree Anchors

Trees can save the cost of poles, but large trees may need tree-safe straps, higher reach and occasional adjustment as trunks and limbs keep growing.

Power Access

If outlets sit close by on the right circuits, setup is simple. A new outlet or hard-wired circuit adds licensed electrician work to the overall project.

Ongoing Service

Seasonal checks, bulb replacement and re-tensioning keep a system looking new for years. It is worth talking through service expectations and response times before the install begins.

Install Timing

Commercial work scheduled before opening, after close or around booked events can change crew scheduling, and the scope is planned with your calendar in mind.

Answers for Dallas Homes and Businesses

Have a question we didn’t cover? Call 972-620-9560 or request a free quote online.

What drives the cost of a string light install?

–

Span length, the number of runs, how many poles are needed, bulb style, cable grade, power access and mounting surfaces all play a part. Height, access and controls matter too. We price each project from a site visit rather than a flat rate, so the quote reflects your actual space.

Do you install bistro lights for Dallas homes, or only businesses?

–

Both. Bistro and string lighting is offered to Dallas homeowners as well as restaurants, bars, offices and apartment communities. Our holiday lighting, permanent lighting and landscape lighting are open to Dallas homes and businesses too, and we serve homes and businesses in all 45 towns on our residential service area list.

Can a business swap patio lights for holiday lighting?

–

Yes. Because we are also a Christmas Decor franchise, commercial properties can use the same anchors and power for holiday lighting during the season. We install the holiday design, maintain it, then remove and store it after the holidays while the bistro strands carry on.

Do LED bistro lights get hot?

–

LED bulbs run far cooler than incandescent bulbs, which is safer around fabric, umbrellas and pergola wood and more comfortable for guests on summer nights. They also use much less power, so more strands can run from a single circuit.

Can you add landscape lighting along with string lights?

–

Yes. Many customers pair overhead string lights with landscape lighting on paths, trees and the house. Planning both together lets the systems share power and controls and keeps the overall look balanced, with the bistro canopy above and softer accents below.

What color of white looks right on a patio?

–

Warm white is the usual choice. It flatters skin tones and food and feels relaxed, while cooler whites can look harsh outdoors. Some customers prefer an even warmer, amber-like tone for an Edison look. Pairing warm bulbs with a dimmer gives the most control over the mood.

Who installs the lights?

–

Christmas Decor by Carruthers Decorative Lighting, based at 11593 Goodnight Lane in Dallas. Our parent company, Carruthers Landscape Management, is a Dallas family business founded in 1978 by Ben Carruthers, and we have lit commercial and large residential properties for over five years.

Which bulb shape should I choose?

–

It comes down to the look. S14 is the classic café bulb, ST38 is a taller Edison shape with vintage character, and G40 is a round globe with a softer glow. Restaurants often pick S14 or ST38, while G40 suits relaxed backyards. We can show examples during the site visit.

Can you light a restaurant or brewery patio to commercial standards?

–

Yes. Commercial patios get heavier cable, tensioned support wire, protected connections and runs set high above standing guests. We plan around umbrellas, heaters and server paths, place controls where staff can reach them and schedule installs around your hours. Certificates of insurance are available before work begins.
