QUICK ANSWER
Bistro lights are large LED bulbs on heavy outdoor cable, strung overhead to light a seating area. In Lancaster, Christmas Decor by Carruthers Decorative Lighting visits the site, plans spans and power, sets posts or anchors and installs strands built for nightly use, for both residential backyards and commercial patios.

Spaces We Light Across Lancaster
Bistro lighting fits far more places than a back porch. Here is where it earns its keep.
01
Rooftop bars and terraces
Rooftops have few anchor points and more wind. We use weighted planter poles or parapet mounts and tensioned catenary wire so strands stay put on breezy nights.
04
Catenary wire support
A tensioned steel guide wire carries the weight on longer spans, so the light cable is never the thing holding itself up. That keeps sag even and protects sockets.
02
Outdoor kitchens and bars
Task-friendly strands over a grill island or bar top let you see what you are cooking while the rest of the space stays soft and relaxed.
05
Poles where walls run out
No tree or wall where you need one? Steel posts set in concrete or heavy planter poles create anchor points anywhere, finished to look like they belong.
03
Event lawns and venues
Venue lawns and wedding sites use long parallel runs or a center canopy. Installs can be permanent for a property that books events week after week.
06
Heavy-duty cable runs
Commercial strands use thicker jacketed cable and molded sockets built for outdoor exposure. They resist UV, summer heat and the twisting in the wind that ruins light-duty sets.

Built for Lancaster Wind, Heat and Hail
North Texas is hard on outdoor lighting. Summer heat bakes cable, spring storms push hard gusts across open yards, and hail can find any glass bulb left exposed.
Our installs answer each of those. Catenary wire takes the strain instead of the light cable. Shatter-resistant LED bulbs shrug off impacts that would break glass. Turnbuckles let us re-tension a span after a storm instead of rehanging the whole run, and every connection sits where water drains away from it.

Lighting Around Lancaster
Lancaster sits south of Dallas where I-35E meets I-20, with a historic square at its center and plenty of newer neighborhoods spreading outward.
Historic Town Square
Storefronts around Lancaster's Historic Town Square suit café-style strands across courtyards and side patios. We anchor into masonry carefully and keep wiring neat so the old buildings stay the focus. A warm white bulb pairs well with older brick, and a timer keeps the courtyard lit for evening customers without daily attention from staff.
Newer subdivisions
Many Lancaster homes have open backyards with young trees. A post-and-wire canopy over the patio creates instant structure and can be adjusted as shade trees fill in. Dimmers let families keep the glow low on quiet nights, and shatter-resistant bulbs are a good choice for yards where kids play ball.
I-35E and I-20 corridors
Restaurants and businesses along these highways often have patios facing big parking fields. A straight, bright run on posts makes outdoor seating visible and inviting from the road. We keep posts out of drive lanes and walkways, and commercial cable holds up to heat radiating off the large paved areas around these sites.
Event and community spaces
Halls and venues that host receptions use overhead strands over lawns and terraces. Permanent posts and a timer let the lights stay ready for every booking. Long spans over open lawns use steel guide wire so every line stays level and photographs well from any angle at evening receptions.
Backyard or Business Patio: What Changes
A backyard install is about mood: a few spans over the seating area, a dimmer, maybe a timer. A commercial patio is about uptime. Restaurants, breweries and venues run strands every night, so we specify heavier cable, more anchor points and layouts staff can maintain.
Commercial sites also think about the code and the landlord. We keep wiring tidy, connections protected and clearances clear of servers and guests, and we can share certificates of insurance before work starts.
Homes: mood, dimming and simple control
Businesses: nightly uptime and heavier cable

How We Build a Lancaster Quote
Every quote is built from your space, so these are the details that move it.
Bulb type and count
Bulb shape, shatter resistance and socket spacing all affect cost. Tighter spacing gives fuller, brighter light overhead but uses more bulbs and more cable on every run.
Permanent or seasonal
A year-round system is built with heavier hardware and guide wire from day one. Seasonal setups with reusable hang points spread their cost differently over time.
Site conditions
Slopes, tree canopies, pool decks and tight side yards can each add steps. We note them on the site visit so the quote has no surprises.
Mounting surfaces
Brick, stone, stucco and wood each need different anchors and sealing. Hard masonry surfaces and tall attachment points take more time to drill and finish cleanly.
Total run length
More linear feet of strand means more bulbs, more cable and more labor. A small patio and a full venue lawn sit at very different ends of the range.

Before You Book: Common Questions
Have a question we didn’t cover? Call 972-620-9560 or request a free quote online.
Are you insured?
–
Yes. Our crews are covered by liability insurance and workers' compensation. Lancaster property managers, landlords and homeowners can request a certificate of insurance from our Dallas office before work starts, and we are happy to send it to whoever needs a copy.
Do I need a new outdoor outlet?
–
Usually not. LED strands draw very little power, so one GFCI outdoor outlet can often run the whole system. If your Lancaster layout needs a switch by the door or a circuit at the far end of the yard, a licensed electrician handles that part and we coordinate.
What is the difference between bistro, café and string lights?
–
They are the same family of lighting. All three describe a weatherproof cable with sockets spaced along it, hung overhead. Bistro and café usually mean larger bulbs like S14 or G40, while string lights can also mean small decorative sets. We install commercial-grade versions built for nightly outdoor use.
Do you service lights another company installed?
–
We can take a look. Many service calls start with sagging strands or dead sockets from an earlier install. Sometimes adding guide wire fixes it. Sometimes the strand itself needs replacing with commercial-grade cable. Either way, you get a straight answer.
Will you mount to brick, stone or stucco without damage?
–
We plan mounting around the material. Brick, stone and stucco each get the right anchor, placed where it is least visible and sized for the load it carries. If you ever remove the system, the holes are small, tidy and easy to patch.
Are string lights safe around a pool or hot tub?
–
Yes, with the right setup. Over a pool or hot tub we hang strands on guide wire at a safe height, use shatter-resistant bulbs and keep every plug and connection well back from the water. Power always comes from a GFCI-protected source on Lancaster pool decks.
Do you work with HOAs, landlords and pergola builders?
–
Yes. If an HOA or landlord has rules about attachments, posts or visible wiring, we design around them and can provide documentation like certificates of insurance. We also coordinate with pergola and patio builders so hang points are planned before construction finishes.
Can a business patio get holiday décor too?
–
Yes. Holiday lighting and décor is our main business. For Lancaster restaurants, venues and commercial properties, we can add wreaths, garland, lit trees and building lighting around the patio, with design, installation, in-season service and removal handled by one team.
How do you hang lights where there is no wall or tree?
–
With posts. In open yards and on Lancaster patios with no structure nearby, we set steel posts in concrete or use weighted planter poles. Catenary wire runs between them to carry the load, so the strands stay level and nothing leans over time.
