What a DeSoto String Light Project Can Cover

Light one area or tie several together on a single plan.

01

Restaurant Patios

Dining patios need even light over every table, hardware that survives nightly service and strands that do not swing in the wind. We plan runs around umbrellas, heaters and server paths.

04

Courtyards

Enclosed courtyards are ideal for a crisscross canopy anchored to the surrounding walls. We find solid mounting points on each side and plan spans that read as one even ceiling of light.

02

Rooftop Bars

Rooftops have few anchor points and plenty of wind. We set weighted or fixed poles, tension every run on support wire and keep strands clear of railings and mechanical equipment.

05

Covered Patios

Under a solid patio cover, strands can follow the beams or trace the perimeter for a softer, layered look. Cords are routed neatly to the outlet so nothing hangs loose.

03

Design and Layout Plan

Before hardware goes up, we sketch the runs, anchor points, pole spots and power source, then walk you through the plan so you know how the finished space will look.

06

Retail Walkways

Shopping center walkways and gathering spots draw more evening traffic when they glow. We plan runs that clear storefront signage, delivery routes and lift access for maintenance crews.

Dimmers, Timers and Smart Control

The right control turns a strand into a feature. A dimmer lets a DeSoto patio go from bright for cooking to soft for conversation. Timers and photocells switch lights on at dusk without anyone remembering, and smart plugs or switches add phone control and schedules.

For businesses, we place controls where staff can reach them and can group zones so the patio, walkway and entrance turn on together or separately.

  • Dimmers for cooking versus conversation

  • Dusk timers and photocells

  • Smart plugs with app schedules

  • Zoned controls for larger properties

  • Switches placed where staff can reach

Call 972-620-9560 to set a time. For commercial properties in DeSoto we can meet a manager or owner on site at an hour that suits you.

02

Measure and Map

We measure spans, check heights and note every possible anchor: walls, fascia, beams, sturdy trees and spots where a pole could stand.

03

Draft the Layout

You get a simple plan showing each run, the pattern, pole locations and where power comes from, along with bulb shape and spacing.

04

Hang and Tension

Strands are clipped to the support wire at even intervals, leveled and trimmed of slack so every line looks clean from the seating area.

05

Grow the System

Adding a pergola, outdoor kitchen or new seating area later? We extend the system from the existing anchors and power source.

Lighting Across DeSoto

DeSoto mixes established neighborhoods with mature trees, newer subdivisions and commercial corridors along I-35E, Hampton Road and Belt Line Road. Residential projects are often big backyards built for family gatherings.

Town Center Area

The town center area near city hall hosts community events and gatherings. Shared outdoor spaces like these benefit from permanent string lighting that is ready for evening events without temporary rigging each time. Timers can switch the lights on before an event begins and off once the crowd has gone home.

I-35E Businesses

Businesses along I-35E, from restaurants to offices, can add patio or courtyard lighting that is visible from the frontage road and inviting for guests and staff alike after the sun goes down. Poles on the parking side carry the canopy where there is no building wall to anchor it.

Churches and Fellowship Areas

DeSoto churches often host outdoor fellowship, youth events and weddings. Courtyard and lawn string lighting makes those areas usable after dark, with installs scheduled around services and events. Certificates of insurance are available for church leadership before any work begins.

Hampton Road Corridor

Restaurants and shops along Hampton Road can light patios and outdoor seating to draw evening customers. We plan runs around signage, drive lanes and parking lot fixtures so the patio glows without glare. Timers switch the canopy on at dusk so the patio is lit before the evening rush arrives.

Established Neighborhoods

Older DeSoto neighborhoods have mature trees and wide lots. Trees can anchor spans with tree-safe straps, and a mix of trees and poles lets one canopy cover a large lawn or patio. Straps are sized to loosen as trunks grow, and we check them during service visits.

Courtyards and Amenity Spaces

Apartment courtyards, office plazas and shared amenity decks are used every night by people who never think about the lights. That calls for commercial-grade runs, clean hardware, protected connections and timers so nobody has to remember to flip the switch at dusk.

For DeSoto multifamily and commercial properties, we work through the property manager, schedule work around residents and tenants, and keep a service line open for bulb swaps and adjustments.

  • Commercial-grade runs for nightly use

  • Timers so lights run on schedule

  • Work coordinated through property managers

  • Service calls for bulbs and adjustments

What Moves the Number in DeSoto

A few site conditions and design choices drive most of the cost.

Cable Grade

Commercial-grade cable with heavier gauge and sealed sockets costs more than consumer strands from a big-box store, but it lasts far longer outdoors, especially on a permanent install.

Site Conditions

Slopes, tight side yards, landscape beds and pool equipment can complicate pole placement and ladder setup, which adds time compared with an open, level patio.

Mounting Surfaces

Brick, stone, stucco, wood and metal each need different hardware. Hard-to-drill surfaces and historic materials take more time, more care and sometimes specialty anchors to mount correctly.

Combined Services

Pairing bistro lighting with landscape lighting, or with holiday lighting on commercial properties, can share anchors, power and site visits, which changes the overall scope.

Height and Access

Second-story eaves, rooftops and tall pergolas may call for lifts, extra ladders or added safety setup, all of which affect labor time on install day.

Questions We Hear in DeSoto

Have a question we didn’t cover? Call 972-620-9560 or request a free quote online.

Can you light a church courtyard or fellowship lawn in DeSoto?

–

Yes. Church courtyards and lawns are a good fit for permanent pole-mounted or wall-anchored runs. We schedule installs around services and events, keep hardware out of walkways, and set up controls so staff can turn the lights on with a switch or timer. Certificates of insurance are available.

Do you service lights another company installed?

–

Sometimes. If the existing anchors, wire and strands are in reasonable shape, we can often re-tension spans, replace bulbs or extend the system. If the original install used consumer strands without support wire, we will explain the options, which may include rebuilding the system the right way.

Can you run lights across the yard to a pergola or tree line?

–

Yes. Long spans are common. We anchor to sturdy trees with tree-safe straps or set poles where there are no trees, tension support wire across the gap and add intermediate supports on longer runs. The result is a lit path or canopy that pulls guests out into the yard.

Are string lights safe near a pool or hot tub?

–

They can be, with the right planning. Strands stay high and well back from the water, power comes only from GFCI-protected circuits, and no cord crosses the deck. Shatter-resistant LED bulbs are the usual choice around pools and spas, and a dimmer keeps the glow soft on the water.

Who installs the lights?

–

Christmas Decor by Carruthers Decorative Lighting, based at 11593 Goodnight Lane in Dallas. Our parent company, Carruthers Landscape Management, is a Dallas family business founded in 1978 by Ben Carruthers, and we have lit commercial and large residential properties for over five years.

How high should string lights hang?

–

High enough to clear heads, umbrellas and anything guests carry, but low enough to feel like a ceiling over the space. On most patios that means anchor points around the height of the eaves or higher. We set heights during the layout and adjust them on install day if needed.

What layout patterns are there?

–

The common ones are perimeter, zig-zag, center pole and parallel runs. Perimeter outlines the space, zig-zag creates a full canopy, center pole radiates runs like a tent and parallel runs suit long tables or lawns. We sketch the options so you can compare them before deciding.

Will you mount to stucco, brick or stone without damage?

–

Yes. Each surface gets the right fastener. Brick and stone anchors usually go in mortar joints, stucco anchors reach solid backing without cracking the finish, and metal pergolas get clamps instead of holes where possible. We keep the number of anchor points to the minimum the layout needs.

Can you add landscape lighting along with string lights?

–

Yes. Many customers pair overhead string lights with landscape lighting on paths, trees and the house. Planning both together lets the systems share power and controls and keeps the overall look balanced, with the bistro canopy above and softer accents below.
