QUICK ANSWER

Bistro lighting is a set of large LED bulbs on outdoor cable, hung overhead between walls, trees or posts. On Justin properties, where yards are often large and open, Christmas Decor by Carruthers Decorative Lighting adds steel posts and catenary wire so long spans stay level, then installs and services the strands.

What a Justin String Light Install Covers

From a small back porch to a full restaurant patio, the approach is the same: plan it, hang it right, keep it working.

01

Open patio canopies

Strands cross overhead in a zig-zag or parallel lines so the whole seating area glows evenly. We set the spacing so light lands on the table, not just the fence.

04

Outdoor kitchens and bars

Task-friendly strands over a grill island or bar top let you see what you are cooking while the rest of the space stays soft and relaxed.

02

Backyard zig-zag canopies

Wide yards with no roof overhead get a canopy strung from house to poles and back. It turns an empty lawn into ausable outdoor room after sunset.

05

Catenary wire support

A tensioned steel guide wire carries the weight on longer spans, so the light cable is never the thing holding itself up. That keeps sag even and protects sockets.

03

Trees and tree lines

Strands can run from a mature oak or pecan to the house or a post. We attach with straps sized for growth so the tree is never girdled by a tight wrap.

06

Dimmers, timers and smart plugs

A dimmer sets the mood, a timer turns strands on at dusk, and a smart plug puts control on your phone. Most installs use at least one.

The Hardware Behind a Clean Install

A string light job looks simple until a strand sags, a hook pulls out of stucco or a plug trips every time it rains. Good hardware prevents all three.

We use stainless eye bolts and masonry anchors sized for the surface, steel guide wire for spans over about twenty feet, and posts set in concrete or weighted planters where nothing else exists. Power runs are planned before we hang a bulb, so cords never cross a walkway or sit in a puddle.

  • Anchors chosen for brick, stone or stucco

  • Guide wire on spans over twenty feet

  • Concrete-set posts or weighted planter poles

  • Power planned before the first bulb

Lighting Justin's Open Properties

Justin is a small, fast-growing Denton County town along FM 156, surrounded by acreage and newer subdivisions. Open sky and long sightlines change how we design a layout.

Acreage backyards

Larger lots often have a patio far from any tree. We set steel posts in concrete around the seating area and run a canopy between them, so the lit space feels like an outdoor room even with open land beyond. Dimmers keep the glow soft against the dark country sky, and posts can be painted black or bronze to fade into the view during the day.

Newer subdivisions

Newer neighborhoods near FM 156 and FM 407 often have young trees and no shade structures. A post-and-wire canopy lights the patio now, and can be adjusted later as a pergola or trees fill in. Starting with posts now means you are not waiting years for trees to grow before you can enjoy the patio after sunset in Justin.

Barns and shop buildings

Many Justin properties have a barn or shop with a big open front. Strands from the eave to posts across the drive turn it into an evening gathering spot, with guide wire handling the long span. Barn doors and shop fronts make a natural stage for parties, and a single control switches the whole space on for guests.

Event lawns

Properties that host weddings and gatherings need long parallel runs or a center-pole canopy over a lawn. Permanent posts let the lights stay up between events and come on with a timer. We leave room for tents and dance floors under the runs, and the heavy cable handles repeated setups without wear.

Restaurant Patios That Stay Lit

On a restaurant or bar patio, a dead strand on a Friday night is a real problem. We design commercial installs so one failed bulb never takes down a whole run, every span can be reached for service and the layout lights tables evenly.

We also think about the street view. Strands visible from the sidewalk or parking lot act as a sign that the patio is open. That is a reason to keep lines straight, spacing even and the glow consistent from end to end.

  • One bulb failure never darkens a run

  • Every span reachable for service

  • Even light across every table

  • Straight lines that read well from the street

What Shapes the Cost of a Justin Install

No two patios cost the same. These factors make the biggest difference.

Total run length

More linear feet of strand means more bulbs, more cable and more labor. A small patio and a full venue lawn sit at very different ends of the range.

Permanent or seasonal

A year-round system is built with heavier hardware and guide wire from day one. Seasonal setups with reusable hang points spread their cost differently over time.

Site conditions

Slopes, tree canopies, pool decks and tight side yards can each add steps. We note them on the site visit so the quote has no surprises.

Mounting surfaces

Brick, stone, stucco and wood each need different anchors and sealing. Hard masonry surfaces and tall attachment points take more time to drill and finish cleanly.

Height and access

Second-story hang points, rooftops and high pergolas may need taller ladders or a lift, which adds labor and setup time compared with a single-story patio.

String Light FAQs

Have a question we didn’t cover? Call 972-620-9560 or request a free quote online.

How long does a typical backyard install take?

–

Most backyard installs in Justin take a single day. Projects with several concrete-set posts, rooftop work or long catenary spans can take a little longer. We share the expected timeline with your quote so there are no surprises on install day.

How do you hang lights where there is no wall or tree?

–

With posts. In open yards and on Justin patios with no structure nearby, we set steel posts in concrete or use weighted planter poles. Catenary wire runs between them to carry the load, so the strands stay level and nothing leans over time.

Do you work with HOAs, landlords and pergola builders?

–

Yes. Many Justin neighborhoods and commercial properties have rules about attachments and visible wiring, and we design around them. We also work alongside pergola and patio builders so hang points and power are planned before construction wraps up. Certificates of insurance are available on request.

Can you run lights from the house to a tree line or pergola?

–

Yes. Long runs across a yard are common. We tension a steel guide wire between the house and a tree, post or pergola, then hang the strand on it so it stays level. Trees get adjustable straps rather than nails, so growth is never restricted.

Can string lights stay up all year?

–

Yes, when they are built for it. Outdoor-rated cable, catenary support and solid anchors let a system stay up through every season. Most of our installs are permanent, with an occasional bulb replacement as the only routine upkeep, and the hardware is chosen to last for years.

Are string lights safe around a pool or hot tub?

–

Yes, with care. Strands over pool decks are hung at a safe height on guide wire, bulbs are shatter-resistant and every connection is kept well away from water. GFCI protection on the power source is a must, and we plan for it from the very first site visit.

What is the difference between bistro, café and string lights?

–

Mostly naming. Bistro, café, market and Edison lights all mean overhead strands with spaced bulbs. The real choices are bulb shape, socket spacing and cable weight. We show samples at the site visit so you can pick the look in person instead of guessing from a product photo.

Can a business patio get holiday décor too?

–

Yes. Holiday lighting and décor is our main business. For Justin restaurants, venues and commercial properties, we can add wreaths, garland, lit trees and building lighting around the patio, with design, installation, in-season service and removal handled by one team.

Will the strands sag or blow around in North Texas wind?

–

Not when they are hung on catenary wire. The steel wire takes the tension and the light cable rides along it, so gusts move the whole span slightly instead of whipping the strand. We can re-tension spans with turnbuckles after a big storm.
