1970s Ranches to Newer Two-Stories

Carrollton was a grain and gravel town until suburban growth spilled north from Dallas. The population nearly tripled in the 1970s, from 13,855 to 40,595, and reached 82,169 by 1990, so much of the city's single-family housing dates from those two decades. Newer development has since followed in the north and around the Trinity Mills and downtown DART stations.

The older ranches in south Carrollton look sharp with one run along the front eave, big trees wrapped at the trunk and shrubs lit underneath. North of the George Bush Turnpike, two-story homes give us gables and taller entries to work with, so we pick the strongest lines and add wreaths up top. Wherever you live in the city, our guide to current lighting styles is a good place to start on color.

  • Ranch eaves outlined in one run

  • Two-story gables chosen for street impact

  • Garage and driveway edges framed

  • Large yard trees wrapped on older lots

  • Upstairs windows finished with wreaths

Carrollton Neighborhoods We Light

Our crews light homes across Carrollton, including Northside Place, Wellington Run and the areas described here. Nearby, we also serve Addison's homes and townhomes and Lewisville neighborhoods to the north.

Near the historic square

Older homes on the streets around downtown Carrollton, where the December tree lighting and visits with Santa bring neighbors downtown. Warm white outlines and fresh wreaths suit these houses and sit comfortably beside the square's own decorations.

Austin Waters

Austin Waters covers 78 acres off the Plano Parkway corridor, with landscaped gardens, open green space and water features kept by its association. Homes facing the water can be lit for reflections, within HOA guidelines.

North Carrollton (75007 and 75010)

The Denton County side, much of it built during Carrollton's growth in the 1980s and 1990s, with two-story homes on established streets. Front gables, wreaths on upper windows and a lit entry make a balanced display.

South Carrollton (75006)

The Dallas County side of the city, where much of the housing went up during the 1970s boom. One-story brick homes with long eaves and big yard trees light well with a single outline and a wrapped tree.

Mustang Park

An association community where the HOA maintains the entries and common areas. Homes here take a front-gable and entry design, coordinated with the association's guidelines.

Three Counties and Many Associations

Carrollton reaches into three counties. Most of the south side is in Dallas County, much of the north is in Denton County, and a small Collin County corner falls in Plano ISD. Neighborhoods in each area were built at different times, which is why a street near the historic square and a street off Hebron Parkway can call for completely different designs.

Many newer neighborhoods have HOAs. Austin Waters, for example, is a 78-acre association community with gardens and water features, and some associations publish rules that touch on holiday displays. Share yours and we will design to them, and boards can light their entrances through our neighborhood HOA lighting. For lighting that stays up after the holidays, see landscape lighting in Carrollton.

  • HOA rules reviewed in every county

  • Display dates matched to your association

  • Water-feature and greenbelt lots planned for rear views

  • Cords kept off common areas

  • Entrances lit for boards that want them

Carrollton Display Cost Factors

Every quote is built from measurements at your house. These are the pieces that matter.

Roof footage

The total run of eave and gable you choose to light is the largest part of the quote.

Color

Single-color displays are simplest, and mixed colors on roof and trees use more varied product.

Roof height

Single-story ranches go faster, while second-story gables and steep pitches need more time and safety gear.

Extras

Each wreath, garland swag or pathway marker is its own line on the quote.

Trees

Large trees on older south Carrollton lots take more lighting than young trees in newer neighborhoods.

Carrollton Homeowner Questions

Have a question we didn’t cover? Call 972-620-9560 or request a free quote online.

Do you install Christmas lights on homes in Carrollton?

–

Yes. We install on homes across Carrollton in ZIP codes 75006, 75007 and 75010, in the Dallas, Denton and Collin county sections. Businesses and dealerships are covered on our Carrollton holiday lighting page.

Will I own the lights after the season?

–

No, you lease them. We supply, fit, maintain, remove and store the lighting. If you want a system that stays up all year, ask about permanent lighting around Carrollton.

When should I book?

–

Book between late summer and early October. Carrollton installs usually begin in early November, and the dates fill from the earliest approved designs, so book early if you want lights up in time for Santa on the Square.

When is takedown in Carrollton?

–

In early January for most homes, unless your HOA sets a date. We pack your display and keep it for next year.

Do I need HOA approval?

–

If your neighborhood has an HOA, check its guidelines, since newer Carrollton neighborhoods are more likely to have them. Send the rules and we will design to them.

Will the lights damage my roof?

–

Shingles never get nails or staples from us. Carrollton displays hang on gutter and shingle-edge clips, and those clips are pulled during takedown.

How do timers and power work?

–

The display draws from outdoor outlets already on the house, and the timers we provide hold it to your preferred hours. LED lighting keeps the electrical load low.

Does it matter which county my Carrollton home is in?

–

Not for our service. We light homes in the Dallas, Denton and Collin county parts of Carrollton the same way. What changes from one neighborhood to the next is the housing style and the HOA rules, and we plan for both.
