What Comes With a McKinney Display
The season is handled as one service, not a list of chores for you.
01
Architecture-first design
We start with what makes the house distinct, whether that is a wraparound porch, a stone turret or a white-brick modern facade, and design around it.
04
Trees and porches
Mature oaks can take trunk and canopy wraps, and old porch railings hold lit garland well.
02
Leased LED product
Lighting is supplied for the season and stays ours, so you never buy, test or replace a strand before next year.
05
December upkeep
If any part of the display stops working, tell the office and a crew is dispatched. Repairs during the season are included.
03
Custom-length runs
Crews measure and cut each strand to the line it follows, which matters on Victorian gables and the deep hips of 1990s Stonebridge homes.
06
Removal and storage
In January it all comes down and goes into storage, labeled by section, until the following fall.

From Folk Victorian to Brick Estates
The blocks around downtown McKinney hold Craftsman bungalows, Folk Victorian houses and older farmhouses on a tight street grid under large shade trees, with newer brick homes along the edges. These houses have porches, steep front gables and decorative trim, and the display should follow those details rather than bury them under a full roofline outline.
West and south of downtown, the stock changes to brick and stone traditional homes. Stonebridge Ranch has been building since the 1990s, and some of its larger houses have castle-like entries and multiple hips. Craig Ranch, developed entirely this century, mixes Tudor-inspired and Spanish-style homes with white-brick modern designs on lots where the house fills most of the yard. Those small yards push the design onto the roofline, the entry and the windows.

Stone entry towers outlined, hips left plain
White-brick moderns lit in single clean lines

Our McKinney Process
01
On-site design
We study the architecture, trees and outlets, and on historic homes we note the trim and siding we will not fasten to.
02
Proposal
The written plan lists each line and piece, and you can adjust it before anything is cut.
03
Installation
Crews clip lighting in place, run cords to outlets, program a timer and test it at the house.
04
Season service
If a run fails, let the office know and a technician returns to repair it during December.
05
Removal and storage
After New Year's the display is removed, labeled and stored until next season.
McKinney Neighborhoods We Light
These five areas cover McKinney's main housing types. We also serve homes nearby in Allen's single-story and two-story neighborhoods and new Melissa subdivisions.
Historic McKinney
Streets near the downtown square with Craftsman and Folk Victorian homes, few sidewalks and big shade trees. Lit porches, gables and trunk wraps suit these houses, and we avoid fastening anything to original trim.
Craig Ranch
A 21st-century community by TPC Craig Ranch and the Sam Rayburn Tollway, mixing Tudor-inspired, Spanish-style and modern white-brick homes. Houses fill most of their lots, so rooflines, entries and window wreaths carry the display.
Westridge
West McKinney near the Frisco line, with homes mostly from the late 2010s, lots averaging about 9,000 square feet and Westridge Golf Course close by. Ranch, Craftsman and two-story brick plans each get their own design, often with lit shrubs across the wider lots.
Stonebridge Ranch
More than 5,000 acres and over 70 villages, with homes from the 1990s to today, mature oaks and nearly 20 miles of trails. Many homes are brick or brick and stone, so the plan usually outlines the main gables and wraps a front oak.
Trinity Falls
A 2,000-acre community in north McKinney along the East Fork of the Trinity River, with a 127-acre section for residents 55 and older. Newer homes and young landscaping call for outlined gables and lit beds, with tree wraps added as the trees mature.
McKinney's Holiday Calendar and Older Trees
McKinney starts celebrating early. The Home for the Holidays festival fills downtown with Santa, shopping and a big tree lighting the weekend after Thanksgiving, and in the Village of El Dorado neighbors theme whole streets around songs, cartoon characters and nativity scenes for visitors through December. Homeowners who want their lights on for those weekends need an early install slot.
The older parts of town also have the city's biggest trees. Stonebridge Ranch lots often have mature oaks, and the historic district is shaded by large trees over narrow streets. Wrapping a big trunk and lighting the lower canopy can carry as much of the display as the roofline. Associations, including Stonebridge Ranch's many villages, often have their own rules, and our McKinney HOA lighting team handles community entrances as well.

Factors in a McKinney Lighting Quote
Your quote reflects your house and the design you pick. These are the main variables.
Roofline coverage
Front-only lighting is the smallest scope. Adding porches, side gables and back elevations increases the footage.
Colors and styles
Warm white suits historic facades, and color or alternating patterns suit others. See what homeowners are choosing this year.
Roof complexity
Many-hipped Stonebridge roofs and steep Victorian gables take longer to light than a simple ranch eave.
Garland, wreaths and ground lights
Porch garland, door and window wreaths and walkway lights are each optional pieces you can add or leave out.
Big trees
A mature oak with a full canopy wrap is one of the larger items on a McKinney quote. Small ornamental trees are minor.

Do you install Christmas lights on homes in McKinney?
–
Yes. We serve McKinney homes in 75069, 75070, 75071 and 75072, including the historic district, Stonebridge Ranch, Craig Ranch, Trinity Falls and Westridge. Commercial and downtown work is described on our McKinney holiday decorating page.
Lease, buy or permanent: which makes sense here?
–
Our holiday service is a lease. We provide, hang, maintain, take down and store the lights, so you never own product. Permanent eave lighting is a separate option that stays up all year. Compare them on our McKinney permanent lighting page.
When should I book to have lights up for Home for the Holidays?
–
Aim for a September or early October call. Our install season generally opens in early November, and the festival lands the weekend after Thanksgiving, so November slots are claimed first. If you live in El Dorado or another neighborhood with a December tradition, plan the same way.
When do you take the lights down?
–
Once the holidays end. Most McKinney displays come down in the first half of January, clips and cords included, and go into storage until fall.
Does my Stonebridge Ranch village or other HOA need to approve it?
–
Some do. Stonebridge Ranch is organized into more than 70 villages, and other McKinney communities have their own guidelines. Send us the rules or just the HOA name and we match the plan and dates to them.
Will the lights damage an older roof or historic trim?
–
We never nail or staple through roofing. Lighting attaches with clips at gutters and shingle edges, and on historic homes we use soft ties and freestanding pieces instead of fasteners in wood trim.
What about power and timers?
–
LED displays run from existing exterior outlets on most homes. We confirm the circuits at the design visit, avoid stacking too much on any one outlet and program a timer for your preferred hours.
Can you match the theme on an El Dorado street?
–
Yes. If your block in the Village of El Dorado picks a song or character theme, tell us at the design visit. We can coordinate colors with the theme while keeping the install clean and easy to service.
