Where String Lights Work Hardest in Flower Mound

The requests we hear most from homeowners and businesses.

01

Office and Campus Plazas

Corporate courtyards and outdoor break areas get a warm, finished look after hours. Installs are scheduled before or after business hours so staff and visitors are not disrupted.

04

Backyard Patios

Straight runs or a zig-zag canopy over the seating area, hung high enough to clear heads and umbrellas. Strands ride on support wire so the lines stay crisp instead of drooping between anchor points.

02

Fire Pit Circles

A center pole with strands radiating to perimeter posts turns a fire pit into a defined outdoor room. Every run stays high and well clear of the heat and smoke path.

05

Pergolas and Arbors

Strands follow the beams or cross the open top in a lattice pattern. We fasten along the framing with clips sized for wood or metal, so nothing is ever stapled through the cable jacket.

03

Church and School Courtyards

Courtyards and gathering areas at churches and schools can host evening events in warm, even light. Work is planned around foot traffic and scheduled when the grounds are quiet.

06

Restaurant Patios

Dining patios need even light over every table, hardware that survives nightly service and strands that do not swing in the wind. We plan runs around umbrellas, heaters and server paths.

Support Wire Keeps Every Run Tight

Light strands are not built to carry their own weight across a long span. Left alone, they sag, stretch and swing in the wind. We run a steel catenary wire between anchors, tension it, and clip the strand to it at short intervals.

The wire carries the load and the strand just carries power. It is the biggest difference between a professional install and a weekend project, and it keeps Flower Mound patios looking crisp season after season.

  • Wire carries the load, not the cord

  • Tensioned to limit sag and sway

  • Clipped at short, even intervals

  • Turnbuckles allow re-tensioning later

From First Call to First Glow

01

Start With a Conversation

We ask how you use the space, how many people gather there and where you sit after dark, so the plan fits real life in Flower Mound.

02

Note Use and Traffic

We mark seating zones, walkways, doors, umbrellas and service paths so every run stays high, clear and out of the way.

03

Pick Bulbs and Pattern

Choose a perimeter, zig-zag or canopy layout and an S14, ST38 or G40 bulb. We explain how each option will look in your space.

04

Install and Test

We hang every run, connect power, test each bulb and confirm the dimmer or timer works before the crew packs up.

05

Grow the System

Adding a pergola, outdoor kitchen or new seating area later? We extend the system from the existing anchors and power source.

Flower Mound Spaces We Know

Flower Mound blends wooded neighborhoods, larger lots near Grapevine Lake and busy dining centers along FM 2499 and Long Prairie Road. Many homes have pergolas and pools designed for hosting.

The River Walk at Central Park

The River Walk at Central Park pairs restaurants, apartments and a walkable waterfront. Mixed-use spaces like this use string lighting over walkways and patios to create an evening destination for residents and visitors. Zoned controls let walkways and patios light on different schedules for events and everyday evenings.

Grapevine Lake Side

Homes and businesses near Grapevine Lake see more wind off the water. We tension every run on support wire, size poles for the exposure and keep spans shorter where the yard is wide open. Corrosion-resistant fasteners and guy lines help on lots that face the water.

HOA Amenity Centers

Flower Mound's master-planned communities have clubhouses, pools and pavilions. We coordinate with boards and managers on access, schedules and design so amenity lighting fits the community's established look. Certificates of insurance are available for the management company before work starts.

Parker Square

Parker Square's shops, restaurants and gathering spaces suit patio and courtyard runs. We plan layouts that complement the existing architecture and keep strands clear of signage and service routes. Edison-style ST38 bulbs suit the center's brick and stone and keep the look relaxed.

Bridlewood and Wellington

Neighborhoods like Bridlewood and Wellington have large backyards, pools and outdoor living areas. Canopies over the seating that extend to a pergola or lawn are some of the most common requests we hear. Shatter-resistant bulbs and dimmers suit yards where the pool sits right next to the patio.

Planning Power the Right Way

Every system starts at an outlet. During the site visit we find existing outdoor outlets, check whether they are GFCI-protected and estimate how many strands each circuit can carry.

If a Flower Mound patio needs a new outlet or a hard-wired circuit, that work should be done by a licensed electrician. We plan the layout so power arrives where it is needed, cords stay tucked along structures, and nothing runs across walkways or pool decks.

  • Existing outdoor outlets located and checked

  • GFCI protection on outdoor circuits

  • Load planned for each circuit

  • New circuits by a licensed electrician

  • Cords routed along structures, not walkways

What Goes Into Your Quote

Here is what we look at before pricing a Flower Mound string light job.

Span Length

Longer spans need stronger support wire, more tension and sometimes an intermediate pole. A compact courtyard takes less material and labor than a lawn stretching out to a distant tree line.

Site Conditions

Slopes, tight side yards, landscape beds and pool equipment can complicate pole placement and ladder setup, which adds time compared with an open, level patio.

Poles and Footings

Steel posts in concrete, deck-mounted poles and weighted planters each carry different labor and material. Pole height and finish choices change the scope as well.

Combined Services

Pairing bistro lighting with landscape lighting, or with holiday lighting on commercial properties, can share anchors, power and site visits, which changes the overall scope.

Height and Access

Second-story eaves, rooftops and tall pergolas may call for lifts, extra ladders or added safety setup, all of which affect labor time on install day.

Bistro and String Light FAQ

Have a question we didn’t cover? Call 972-620-9560 or request a free quote online.

Do string lights near Grapevine Lake need special hardware?

–

Lake-adjacent properties in Flower Mound often see stronger, steadier wind. We size support wire and poles for the exposure, add guy lines where needed, use corrosion-resistant fasteners and keep spans shorter on open lots. Strands are clipped tightly so bulbs do not swing and knock together.

Can you add landscape lighting along with string lights?

–

Yes. Many customers pair overhead string lights with landscape lighting on paths, trees and the house. Planning both together lets the systems share power and controls and keeps the overall look balanced, with the bistro canopy above and softer accents below.

Will the strands sag or blow around in North Texas wind?

–

Not when they hang on support wire. We tension a catenary wire across each span and clip the strand to it at short intervals, so the wire carries the load and the strand stays put. Bulbs are clipped so they do not swing, and exposed sites get shorter spans or guy lines.

Can you install string lights on a rooftop deck or bar?

–

Yes. Rooftops need extra planning for wind, scarce anchor points and roof protection. We use weighted or fixed pole bases, tension every span and coordinate access, elevator use and roof protection with building management. Certificates of insurance are provided before work begins.

Do you supply the lights or install ones I already bought?

–

We supply the strands, bulbs, support wire and hardware for the systems we install, because store-bought strands are usually too light for tensioned, permanent runs. If you already own strands, mention it during the site visit and we will tell you honestly whether they are likely to hold up.

Can I control the lights from my phone?

–

Yes. Smart plugs or smart switches rated for outdoor use add app control, schedules and voice control on many systems. For larger properties, separate zones can run on separate schedules. We recommend options that work with the strands and dimmers on your system.

Are your crews insured for commercial properties?

–

Yes. Christmas Decor by Carruthers Decorative Lighting carries liability insurance and workers' compensation, and certificates of insurance are available for property managers, landlords and venues. Let us know who needs to be listed and we will send the certificate before work starts.

What's the difference between bistro, café and string lights?

–

Mostly the name. Bistro and café lights usually mean larger bulbs, such as S14, ST38 or G40, on heavier cable with sockets spaced evenly along the strand. String lights is the broad term that also covers small mini lights. Edison refers to a vintage bulb shape with a filament look, now made in LED.

What color of white looks right on a patio?

–

Warm white is the usual choice. It flatters skin tones and food and feels relaxed, while cooler whites can look harsh outdoors. Some customers prefer an even warmer, amber-like tone for an Edison look. Pairing warm bulbs with a dimmer gives the most control over the mood.
