PermaLites 365 Permanent Lighting: How It Works

Updated: 12 hours ago
Short answer: PermaLites 365 is a permanent lighting system installed in a track along your roofline. It stays up all year, and you control it from an app on your phone: colors, scenes and schedules for Christmas, other holidays, game days and everyday accent lighting.
Hanging Christmas lights every fall and taking them down every winter is a chore. Permanent lighting replaces that routine for the roofline. Once the system is in, the lights are always there, ready for the next holiday or a normal weeknight.

What PermaLites 365 is
PermaLites 365 is permanent, app-controlled LED lighting. The lights sit in a slim track mounted along the trim of the building, so the line looks clean at night and stays low-profile during the day.
Permanent: installed once and left up all year
LED: the same lighting type used across most modern holiday displays
App-controlled: change colors and scenes from a phone
Scheduled: set lights to turn on and off on their own
Professionally installed: mounted and wired by an installer
It is different from seasonal Christmas lighting, where bulbs are clipped on for the holidays and removed after. Our permanent vs seasonal Christmas lights guide compares the two side by side.
How the system works, step by step
Design: we look at the roofline and decide where the track will run.
Track install: the track is mounted along the trim of the home or building.
Lights and wiring: the lights are set into the track and connected to power and a controller.
App setup: the system is connected so you can run it from your phone.
Scenes and schedules: you choose colors and effects and set when they come on.
After that, there is nothing to put up or take down. You open the app and pick what you want.

App control: what you can change
The app is where permanent lighting earns its keep. The same lights do a warm white glow on a Tuesday, red and green in December and team colors on game day.
In the app | What it means |
|---|---|
Colors | Pick warm white, a single color or a mix |
Scenes | Save looks for holidays and events and switch between them |
Effects | Choose still light or motion effects |
Brightness | Turn it up for a party or down for a quiet evening |
Schedules | Set lights to turn on at dusk and off at a set time |
From holiday scenes to everyday lighting
Christmas is the reason most people first look at permanent lighting. The year-round use is why many choose it.
Holiday ideas
Christmas: warm white, red and white, red and green, or multicolor
Fourth of July: red, white and blue
Halloween: orange and purple
Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day and Easter colors
Game days in your team's colors
Everyday uses
Soft white accent lighting that shows off the home's architecture
Brighter light around the house and entry at night
Schedules that turn lights on while you are away
Birthdays, parties, graduations and backyard gatherings
Good exterior lighting also helps you see walkways and entries after dark. Scheduled lighting can make a home look lived-in when you travel.
Residential vs commercial uses
The system works on homes and on commercial buildings. The goals are a little different.
Homes | Businesses and properties | |
|---|---|---|
Main goal | Holiday lighting without yearly install and takedown | A clean, lit outline that works for every season and promotion |
Typical areas | Front roofline, gables, garage, porch | Storefronts, rooflines, clubhouses, amenity centers |
Everyday use | Accent and entry lighting | Brand colors, events, after-hours visibility |
Approvals | HOA review may apply | Landlord or property manager approval may apply |
Many properties pair the two services. A permanent system lights the roofline all year, and seasonal décor adds trees, wreaths and garland for the holidays. Businesses can see our commercial Christmas lighting page for seasonal displays.

Permanent lighting vs hanging lights every year
The biggest change is the yearly routine. With clip-on lights, someone has to get on a ladder every fall, fix dead sections during the season and take everything down in January. With a permanent system, the roofline is already lit.
Each year | Clip-on holiday lights | PermaLites 365 |
|---|---|---|
Fall | Test, hang and clip strands | Open the app and pick a Christmas scene |
During the season | Re-clip and replace bulbs after wind or rain | Adjust scenes and schedules from your phone |
January | Take down and store | Switch to a white or everyday scene |
Rest of the year | Lights sit in storage | Use them for holidays, events and accent lighting |
North Texas weather is part of the decision too. Wind, rain, summer heat and the occasional ice storm all hit a roofline that stays lit all year. Ask your installer how the track and mounting are built for local conditions.
What to ask before you install
Permanent lighting is a long-term change to the outside of your home or building. Ask these questions first.
Where exactly will the track run, and how does it attach to the trim?
What will the track look like in daylight against my trim color?
Where will the power supply and controller go?
Does my HOA require architectural review for permanent fixtures?
What service terms apply after installation?
Is the installer insured, and can I see a certificate of insurance?
We carry liability insurance and workers' compensation, and certificates of insurance are available on request.

Is PermaLites 365 the same as Christmas lights?
It can do Christmas lighting, but it is a permanent system. The lights stay on the roofline all year and you change colors and scenes from an app, instead of hanging and removing bulbs each season.
Can you see permanent lights during the day?
The track runs along the trim and is designed to be low-profile. It is not invisible, so ask to see a finished install in daylight before you decide.
Can I set the lights to warm white for Christmas?
Yes. You can choose warm white or colors in the app and save scenes for each holiday.
Does PermaLites 365 work for businesses?
Yes. Storefronts, clubhouses and other commercial buildings can use the same system for holiday scenes, brand colors and everyday accent lighting.
Do I need HOA approval for permanent lighting?
Many HOAs review permanent exterior changes. Check your community's guidelines and ask about architectural review before you book.
