Spaces We Light Across Allen

Each layout is planned around how the space is actually used after dark.

01

Courtyards

Enclosed courtyards are ideal for a crisscross canopy anchored to the surrounding walls. We find solid mounting points on each side and plan spans that read as one even ceiling of light.

04

Rooftop Bars

Rooftops have few anchor points and plenty of wind. We set weighted or fixed poles, tension every run on support wire and keep strands clear of railings and mechanical equipment.

02

Pergolas and Arbors

Strands follow the beams or cross the open top in a lattice pattern. We fasten along the framing with clips sized for wood or metal, so nothing is ever stapled through the cable jacket.

05

Restaurant Patios

Dining patios need even light over every table, hardware that survives nightly service and strands that do not swing in the wind. We plan runs around umbrellas, heaters and server paths.

03

Office and Campus Plazas

Corporate courtyards and outdoor break areas get a warm, finished look after hours. Installs are scheduled before or after business hours so staff and visitors are not disrupted.

06

Gazebos and Pavilions

Strands can outline the roof edge, drape inside the open structure or link the gazebo to the house with a lit span. We fasten to framing without marring finished wood.

Residential vs. Commercial Installs

A backyard canopy and a restaurant patio use similar parts but different priorities. At home, the focus is mood, sight lines and a clean look from the kitchen window. On a commercial patio, the system also has to handle nightly use, crowds, umbrellas and staff switching it on and off.

For Allen businesses we plan heavier cable, more anchor points, protected connections and a service plan, and we provide certificates of insurance on request.

  • Homes: mood, sight lines and a clean look

  • Business: uptime through every nightly service

  • Business: crowd clearance and secure connections

  • Both: tensioned support wire and LED bulbs

  • COIs available for commercial properties

What Happens After You Call

01

Describe the Space

Patio, rooftop, courtyard or lawn: we start by learning the size, the surfaces and what is already there, from outlets to trees and fences.

02

Survey Every Surface

Brick, stucco, stone, wood beams and metal pergolas each take different fasteners. We note surfaces so mounts hold without damage.

03

Review and Approve

We go over the drawing and scope together, adjust runs or bulb choices, and schedule installation once everything looks right to you.

04

Light It Up

At the end of the install we power everything on, walk the space with you and adjust any run that sits too low or off line.

05

Seasonal Check-Ins

Ask about a check before the spring and fall entertaining seasons to swap bulbs, re-tension spans and inspect every connection.

Allen Spaces We Know

Allen mixes newer master-planned neighborhoods with busy retail and dining districts along US 75. Big backyards and covered patios are common on the residential side, while restaurants and centers want lighting that stands up to crowds.

Watters Creek

Watters Creek at Montgomery Farm is built around walkable streets, open green space and patio dining. Retail and restaurant spaces like these suit overhead runs across walkways and seating areas, planned to clear storefronts, signage and service access. Commercial runs can be zoned so walkways and patios light on separate schedules.

Downtown Allen

Allen's historic downtown along Main Street has older buildings and small courtyards. Brick and stone walls make sturdy anchors, and we choose fasteners that hold tension without cracking mortar or marking the original masonry. Edison-style ST38 bulbs suit the older storefronts and keep the historic character intact.

Stacy Road Corridor

Restaurants and businesses along Stacy Road near Allen Premium Outlets often have patios facing parking. String lights define the seating area, draw evening traffic and make the space feel set apart from the lot. Freestanding poles on the parking side carry the canopy without any building wall.

Twin Creeks and Star Creek

Neighborhoods like Twin Creeks and Star Creek have generous backyards, pools and covered patios. Homeowners often ask for a canopy over the seating area that extends out to a pergola or tree line on a pole-supported span. Shatter-resistant bulbs and a dimmer suit the pool and kids' play areas common in these yards.

Celebration Park Area

Homes near Celebration Park and the trails along Rowlett Creek often back up to open space. Pole-mounted runs light a patio that faces a greenbelt without anchoring to trees or fences you do not own. Poles can be finished to match your fence so the setup looks like part of the landscape.

Pergolas, Gazebos and Covered Patios

Structures make lighting easy, and easy to get wrong. On an open pergola, strands can follow every beam, cross the top in a lattice or drape between rafters. Under a solid cover, lights along the beams or perimeter give soft, layered light without glare.

We fasten with clips sized for wood or metal framing, never staples through the cable, and route cords inside the structure so the finished look in Allen stays clean.

  • Beam-following runs on open pergolas

  • Lattice or crisscross runs across the top

  • Perimeter runs under solid covers

  • Clips sized for wood or metal

  • Cords hidden inside the structure

How a Allen Project Is Scoped

The scope, and the price, follow from a handful of site and design choices.

Power Access

If outlets sit close by on the right circuits, setup is simple. A new outlet or hard-wired circuit adds licensed electrician work to the overall project.

Site Conditions

Slopes, tight side yards, landscape beds and pool equipment can complicate pole placement and ladder setup, which adds time compared with an open, level patio.

Height and Access

Second-story eaves, rooftops and tall pergolas may call for lifts, extra ladders or added safety setup, all of which affect labor time on install day.

Ongoing Service

Seasonal checks, bulb replacement and re-tensioning keep a system looking new for years. It is worth talking through service expectations and response times before the install begins.

Permanent vs Seasonal

Permanent installs use sturdier anchors and wire upfront. Seasonal setups cost less at first, but the labor repeats every time strands go up and come back down.

Patio Lighting Questions

Have a question we didn’t cover? Call 972-620-9560 or request a free quote online.

Will you mount to stucco, brick or stone without damage?

–

Yes. Each surface gets the right fastener. Brick and stone anchors usually go in mortar joints, stucco anchors reach solid backing without cracking the finish, and metal pergolas get clamps instead of holes where possible. We keep the number of anchor points to the minimum the layout needs.

Do you install bistro lights for Allen homes as well as businesses?

–

Yes. Bistro and string lighting is offered to Allen homeowners as well as restaurants, retail centers, HOAs and apartment communities. Allen is also one of the towns where we install residential Christmas lighting, so the same anchors and power can serve your patio strands and your holiday display.

Can permanent string lights be used for events at my property?

–

Yes, and that is one of the strongest reasons to install them. A permanent canopy over a lawn or patio is ready for birthdays, graduations, receptions and community nights without renting and rigging lights. For larger events, we also offer special event lighting.

How long do LED bistro bulbs last?

–

LED bistro bulbs last many times longer than old incandescent bulbs and run much cooler, which makes them the right choice for permanent installs. Actual life depends on hours of use, heat and weather exposure. When one does fail, it unscrews and swaps out without taking the strand down.

Are your crews insured for commercial properties?

–

Yes. Christmas Decor by Carruthers Decorative Lighting carries liability insurance and workers' compensation, and certificates of insurance are available for property managers, landlords and venues. Let us know who needs to be listed and we will send the certificate before work starts.

Who installs the lights?

–

Christmas Decor by Carruthers Decorative Lighting, based at 11593 Goodnight Lane in Dallas. Our parent company, Carruthers Landscape Management, is a Dallas family business founded in 1978 by Ben Carruthers, and we have lit commercial and large residential properties for over five years.

Will the strands sag or blow around in North Texas wind?

–

Not when they hang on support wire. We tension a catenary wire across each span and clip the strand to it at short intervals, so the wire carries the load and the strand stays put. Bulbs are clipped so they do not swing, and exposed sites get shorter spans or guy lines.

Are the bulbs plastic or glass?

–

Both exist. Glass looks classic, but shatter-resistant plastic LED bulbs are the practical choice for most patios, pool decks and busy restaurants because they survive bumps, hail and dropped tools. Modern shatter-resistant bulbs look very close to glass once they are lit.

How long does a typical backyard install take?

–

Many backyard patios and pergolas are installed in a single visit. Larger layouts, long lawn spans and jobs that need poles set in concrete can take longer, because footings need time before wire is tensioned. You get a clear schedule with the layout plan, before any work starts.
